Delyth Jewell MS - Time For New Environmental Leadership For Wales And New Welsh Government Net Zero Target By 2040
South Wales East MS Delyth Jewell has described the forthcoming Senedd election as a tipping point in history and has outlined the need for new environmental leadership for Wales.

Plaid Cymru Climate Change spokesperson Delyth Jewell used her speech to announce a new target for the next Welsh Government to reach net zero by 2040.

Plaid Cymru Deputy Senedd Leader, Delyth Jewell MS, said: “Plaid Cymru stands on the tipping point of history. In May, Cymru can at last be led by a party that’ll fight every day for a better future. A party governed by the people of Wales, not London bosses. Who won't stay silent for fear of embarrassing any colleagues in Westminster, or short-change our nation to fatten the coffers of Whitehall. In Plaid Cymru, Wales can at last be governed for the benefit of our people.

“In government, Plaid Cymru will work to ensure that more profits from green energy projects remain in our communities, that green skills and jobs are created locally, that the people who have polluted our land have to pay for their pollution.  That the powers over our natural resources, from the Crown Estate to the state of our rivers, reside here in Wales.  With Plaid Cymru in government, a new green revolution will be underway in our country.  Driving everything towards reaching net zero by 2040 – an ambitious, radical, and achievable target that will empower our communities."

Ms Jewell warned her party against complacency ahead of the election on May 7th.

The South Wales East MS added: “The future stands ready for our footsteps. But we cannot be complacent. Because the rancour of Reform is tearing through our communities. We know that Farage and his followers offer no answers or vision. They seek only to sow hatred and division – to use our Senedd as a stepping-stone for their ambitious elsewhere. They are not serious people. They offer no serious solutions. How insulting to hear Farage talk about reopening the mines in our valleys. A man who knows nothing of our history, championing an industry that exploited and ravaged our people, and left scars to litter our skyline.

“Spoil tips and poisoned lungs – that is the legacy of coal in our communities. Dust that still chokes the breath of miners, and rubbish heaps that blot out the sky.

“We know better than to trust this new Thatcher-in-waiting, who’ll take power from our people and offer nothing in return.  We know from sour experience how the filthy rich leave their filth for us to deal with.  The people of these valleys know our history, Mr Farage, and your company is not welcome here.”
