Council Workers Praised By Plaid Leader In The Wake Of Storm Claudia

Plaid Cymru’s Caerphilly Council Group Leader Charlotte Bishop has praised council workers for their efforts and response during Storm Claudia.

The Aber Valley councillor said: “I’d like to thank all our employees for the way the storm response was handled in Caerphilly County.

“Importantly communication this time was much improved and the crews were out quickly and working hard. People noticed – not just councillors but residents and that really matters.

“I know a lot of  preparation  work was done for such events, but it is important to highlight the work of our staff when things go well. Communities see the effort, and it makes a huge difference. “

Councillor Charlotte Bishop said that preparation in advance was crucial because being ahead of the game would always be cheaper, safer, and less stressful for everyone.

“Clearing drains and gullies before heavy rain, so we’re not dealing with flooded roads and emergency callouts is key as well as  leaf clearing to ensure drains don’t get blocked.

“Regular tree checks and pruning, so fewer branches come down in high winds,. is important as well as upgrading and maintaining drainage systems in regular trouble spots to stop repeat flooding.”
