Plaid Cymru Senedd Member Lindsay Whittle says he is shocked that a replacement Post Office in the heart of Caerphilly has been delayed – probably for months.
Lindsay Whittle said: “I am furious and angry that the Post Office has allowed this situation to occur. They had ample notice. I took them to one property which they told me was great. But Post Office officials then said they had another option but would not tell me where. Now it's back to the drawing board.
“I have to question if the Post Office is really serious about providing a service or just leading the people of Caerphilly up the garden path. This delay means many people who live around the town centre will have to continue to make the journey to Castle View or Penyrheol which is a bit of a trek and time consuming.
“With potential applicants having until September 13 to express an interest it could be many months before a post office is restored in the town centre.”
In an email to the Blaenau Gwent, Caerffili, Rhymni MS, the Post Office said: “I am contacting you to provide an update on the application we had been progressing for Caerphilly Post Office.
“Unfortunately, the application was not successful and we are, therefore, advertising for a new operator.
“We appreciate this is disappointing news and apologise to our customers for the delay in restoring Post Office services in Caerphilly.”
