Plaid Cymru councillor Aneurin Minton is demanding transparency from Caerphilly Council over the sale of the Cwm Ifor Solar Farm on the mountainside above his ward.
Councillor Aneurin Minton, who was elected as a councillor for the Penyrheol in a by-election last year, said residents had been failed by the sale of the solar farm, citing broken promises over cheaper electricity.
Labour-run Caerphilly Council has yet to disclose the solar farm sale price to Fuse Energy, something which the Penyrheol councillor has condemned.
Councillor Aneurin Minton said: “When the Cwm Ifor Solar Farm was first proposed as a public project, it brought real hope to Penyrheol. Residents affected by the development were promised tangible benefits, including cheaper energy bills and local investment opportunities.
“Instead, the council has sold the project off to a private firm without liaising with local councillors or the community, and they are now withholding the sale price from the public. This is totally unacceptable.
“I am a strong supporter of green infrastructure: we must move quickly toward energy security. But yet again, Caerphilly Council has wasted a golden opportunity to deliver a project that would be both economically beneficial to the public purse and a genuine asset for our community.
“Residents deserve full transparency over where this money went and why the promised community benefits have been cast aside,” he added.
