Lindsay Whittle Backs “Owain’s Law” Campaign On Brain Tumour Tissue

Caerphilly Senedd Member Lindsay Whittle hosted Ellie James at the Senedd in her campaign to end a hidden postcode lottery, denying patients access to life-extending treatment.

Ellie, who is from Caerphilly, brought a digital poster van with supporters to highlight the campaign after her husband, Owain died aged just 35.

She wants to end inconsistent tumour tissue freezing across the NHS in Wales and is urging the next Welsh Government to introduce national standards so that all suitable tissue is frozen.

Ellie James said: “Every brain tumour patient only gets one chance. If tissue isn’t handled properly after surgery, that opportunity for further testing and personalised treatment is lost, often without patients ever knowing it existed.

“In Wales, where outcomes are already poorer, that simply isn’t acceptable. This is fixable, and it has to change, no family should go through what we did.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Lindsay Whittle for his support. It means a lot to have my local representative backing this, and to Plaid Cymru for committing to tackle this issue. I hope all parties will now step up and make the same commitment at this crucial Senedd election.”

Caerphilly Senedd Member Lindsay Whittle said: “Ellie is a brilliant campaigner and I fully back her efforts to end what is an unacceptable postcode lottery . Outcomes for patients in Wales need and must be improved significantly.”
