Caerphilly Senedd Member Lindsay Whittle has praised the work of a young people’s community project based in the Aber Valley.
SYDIC's Young People's Oral History and Heritage Project has been included in the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s good practice guide for working with children and young people. The Senghenydd-based organisation is the only one featured from Wales.
Lindsay Whittle, who was himself interviewed for the project about the changes in the Aber Valley over the years, said: “The young people have done some brilliant work and it is fantastic that this has been acknowledged by the National Lottery’s Heritage Fund.
“Young people often get a bad press. SYDIC’s (Senghenydd Youth Drop-In Centre) work with young people encouraging them to contribute to their local community shows what can be achieved.”
