Plaid Cymru Senedd Member Lindsay Whittle is calling on Post Office officials to look at opening a replacement office in the lower Sirhowy Valley.
The area has been without a Post Office since the last one in Cwmfelinfach closed in January 2023 – leaving the area without an office for the eight miles between Blackwood and Risca.
Lindsay Whittle, who has been contacted by constituents, said: “It is not acceptable that such a large area should be without this vital community facility.
“Many people do not have their own transport which means a long bus journey to and from the nearest Post Office. Ynysddu ward has no post offices serving Wyllie, Ynysddu, Cwmfelinfach, Brynawel and Wattsville.
“This area is a Post Office desert and I would urge Post Office management to examine possible sites where facilities could be provided. Post Offices are hugely important for the community,” added Lindsay Whittle, who represents the Blaenau Gwent, Caerffili, Rhymni area which includes the lower Sirhowy Valley.
He has written to the Post Office on the issue.
