Plaid Councillor On Mission To Change Community For The Better

A tired, drab breeze block wall surrounding two Caerphilly schools is to be transformed by a colourful mural.

Plaid Cymru Penyrheol councillor Aneurin Minton said that local graffiti and mural artist Tee2Sugars would begin work next week to transform part of the wall surrounding  St Cenydd Community School and Hendre Primary School.

Councillor Aneurin Minton, who is a county borough and community councillor, said:  “I remember this ugly wall from the time I was in school and its look has worsened over the years.

“Working with the community council, pupils and staff we are on a mission to transform this grey, drab eyesore into something special. Our aim is to turn this wall into a mural that depicts the history of our community and our valley at the gateway to the community.

“Because of its location, thousands of motorists pass this wall twice daily on their way to and from work, so we wanted to create a  much better outlook.”

He explained that funding for the mural had come from Caerphilly council’s Community Infrastructure  Levy. A charge is levied on developers with the money collected used to support community improvements.

“This mural is part of a wider initiative to improve community facilities such as play areas, benches, bins, CCTV and further artwork,” added Councillor Aneurin Minton.
