Plaid Councillor Questions Council’s Commitment To Biodiversity and Net Zero

Plaid Cymru councillor Aneurin Minton has asked his first question in Caerphilly Council’s chamber since being elected in a by-election  in December.

Councillor Aneurin Minton, who retained the Penyrheol for Plaid Cymru after Lindsay Whittle’s election to the Senedd, quizzed officers at a meeting of Caerphilly Council’s Joint Scrutiny Committee.

He asked: “Given the council’s declared climate emergency and its commitment to achieving net zero, can officers explain how the 2026-27 budget will specifically support biodiversity enhancement and decarbonisation measures within our community."

Councillor Aneurin Minton said that he was concerned about a lack of funding for biodiversity and net zero projects in the council’s budget for the next financial year.

“The council has set a target to be net zero by 2050 and they also have a biodiversity target but are not sticking to it.”
