Plaid Cymru Senedd Member Urges Action On Civil Service Pension Delays

Plaid Cymru Senedd Member Lindsay Whittle says people are suffering because of delays with Civil Service pension pay-outs.

He is seeking crucial information from the UK Cabinet Office on when long-suffering constituents can expect to receive overdue payments.

Lindsay Whittle said: “The backlog is severely impacting the lives of people in my Blaenau Gwent, Caerffili, Rhymni constituency and this needs to be sorted by Capita, which is responsible for the administration of the Civil Service Pensions scheme, as a matter of urgency.

“I’m hoping to hear positive news from the UK Government about the progress in sorting out this unacceptable backlog.”

In a letter to the UK Government Lindsay Whittle wrote: “We have received correspondence from concerned constituents due to the delay and backlog at Capita, and their management of the Civil Service Pension Scheme.

“Some of my constituents have significant financial commitments that depend on a prompt payment of their pension. But some have now waited months and are fearful that this on-going delay will not be resolved in time.

“I understand that Capita has recently released a statement stating they have the processes and system in place to solve the backlog, but has not, as far as I am aware, made any announcements regarding a timeline."

Lindsay Whittle said he had understood the UK Government had been assisting Capita resolve their issues “but a timeline is essential for some of my constituents who are worried and in an increasingly difficult situation”.

The Plaid Senedd Member asked if there was any further information on when those waiting for payments could expect to be paid.

He asked:

·        Is there a deadline that has been agreed with Capita on when the whole backlog will be fixed?

·        Would it be possible for you or your officials to look into some of the constituent cases that we have?
