Plaid Select Aneurin Minton For Penyrheol Council By-Election

Plaid Cymru has chosen local campaigner Aneurin Minton for the Penyrheol Council By-Election after Lindsay Whittle was voted in as Caerphilly’s Senedd Member last month.

Aneurin Minton, who runs his own tree surgeon business, was educated at Hendredenny Park Primary School and St Cenydd Comprehensive, where he completed his A-levels. He previously worked as a countryside ranger.

Aneurin Minton, who grew up in Ty Isaf, on the edge of Penyrheol, has been a member of the Penyrheol, Trecenydd and Energlyn Community Council since 2022.

He said: “I am now ready to take the next step as your county councillor to amplify Penyrheol's voice and ensure our local needs are met with dedication and practical action. I am asking voters for their support to make a real difference, together.

“I know it will be a difficult act to follow the footsteps of Lindsay Whittle whose work over almost 50 years is unrivalled but I’m determined to work hard for the community if elected.”

Lindsay Whittle said: “I’m delighted to endorse Aneurin Minton as Plaid's candidate in the by-election to replace me as the county councillor on Caerphilly CBC.

“Aneurin is a breath of fresh air in local politics, keen, enthusiastic, energetic and simply raring to go.

“He has already started to make his mark on the local community council and is now willing to take this forward to county level. Naturally, I was sad at having to leave Caerphilly Council but I know Penyrheol will be in good hands if Aneurin is elected next month.”

The by-election will be held on Thursday, December 11th.

Plaid Cymru holds the other three seats in the ward with Councillors Greg Ead, Jon Scriven and Steve Skivens.
