A replacement post office in the heart of Caerphilly town centre is moving closer, Plaid Cymru Senedd Member Lindsay Whittle has been told.
The Post Office told the Blaenau Gwent, Caerffili, Rhymni MS that it was in discussions with one applicant and the process was nearing its final stages.
If an agreement is signed then the fitting out and subsequent opening of the branch will move forward. A opening date has yet to be confirmed, Lindsay Whittle was told.
Lindsay Whittle said: “I’m pleased that the replacement for the post office at TJ Jones is being progressed and nearing what appears to be the final stages of the process of finding a new operator.”
Lindsay raised the issue this month (July) when the Post Office hosted a display at the Senedd.
“With the closure of the post office, many people who live around the town centre are having to make the journey to Castle View or Penyrheol which is a bit of a trek and time consuming. We need a town centre post office urgently,” added Lindsay Whittle.
